Organized storage is a great tool for those people who find themselves running out of space in their own home. But sometimes a storage unit can be a scary place if what you are trying to safe keep are fragile items. Some people may hesitate to even put items in storage for fear that something may happen to them. The problem with that thinking is that if you are already considering packing boxes and taking them to a storage facility chances are that you have little room in your home, and lack of space can spell doom for those items if you bump or accidentally put something on top of them. So get packing because here are some tips that will keep your fragile items safe.
Packing
Packing boxes with your fragile stuff must be done right so that your items are safe in your storage unit. You do not have to get the biggest box for the item in fact you want one that is just the right size. Make sure that when packing your items that they are well padded. The padding should help in case the items are bumped on the way to the storage and when placing it in your very own storage room. Once inside the unit, your items should be safe because you will be the only person going in unless you request assistance. Of course you should try to keep your organized storage organized, and that is the next step.
Keep It Organized
You must keep your organized storage unit neat to keep your items safe. Try keeping the bigger items to the sides and your fragile items closer to the middle but away from the door. Doing this is essential in order to keep your storage unit items safe. When packing boxes use labels so you know what is in each box. If you know what is in a box when packing it then if you need the items later you will not need to move them as much. Make the letters big enough to read; you know that sometimes it may be difficult to read one’s own hand writing so make it legible. Remember to keep the labels facing forward to avoid having to move boxes more than necessary.
Insurance
As a last level of protection some storage unit locations will offer you insurance. If you have valuable fragile items that you will be keeping in organized storage then it is a good idea to get this insurance. When packing the boxes make a list of the items so you have an idea of their value. The company may ask to see the items inside so you may be packing them again at the storage facility, but it is well worth the extra effort. Remember that if you choose to keep the items at home you cannot take insurance on them so if they break you are just out of luck. Think of the item and the value and decide if insurance is
